An open, modern office

Miele X is a forward-looking, dynamic digital company and the office in Amsterdam-Zuid (South Amsterdam) reflects that. It’s an open-plan office, with plenty of breakout areas, so there’s always lots of space to work in. And the décor reflects the culture – there are even signs around the office that emphasise the Miele X brand ‘Going beyond the ordinary’.

It’s a very modern workplace, with glass booths to work in, which gives you a feeling of transparency. There are also quiet areas where you can sit and think, as well as areas for casual chats and catch-ups. It's a welcoming and homely atmosphere. And naturally, the kitchen’s full of Miele appliances.

Multicultural Amsterdam South

Amsterdam-Zuid (Amsterdam South), where the Miele X office is situated, is a great location and home to major global companies, such as Google. But it doesn’t feel like a soulless business area – there’s a mix of commercial and residential properties, as well as plenty of grocery stores and childcare services. In fact, there’s a strong multi-cultural feeling – when you go out at lunchtime, you hear lots of different languages being spoken.

There are plenty of fast-food places and restaurants to choose from too, so you can eat food from all over the world. And there are lots of places near the office where you can sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, such as Beatrixpark.

The Miele X office is only three minutes’ walk from Amsterdam-Zuid train and Metro station, which is a big transport hub. So, you can get to the airport in around six minutes or catch the Metro to central Amsterdam in around 10 minutes. And there are trains to other areas of the Netherlands, too – Rotterdam’s only 30 minutes away. There are also local tram services, so wherever you live, it’s easy to get to.

Living in Amsterdam as a non-Dutch speaker

Amsterdam is a vibrant city with a very international feeling to it – there are lots of big global companies here and they attract people from all over the world. And being a non-Dutch speaker isn’t a problem – many people across the city speak English, so there’s always someone to help you out.

The Dutch culture is very focused on work/life balance, which makes it very attractive to work here.

Most of my Dutch colleagues tend to live outside Amsterdam, but the majority of my international colleagues prefer to live in the city. I really enjoy living in Amsterdam – it’s so easy to get anywhere by bike. And there’s no better place on a summer’s day than being on a boat on the canals and seeing the city from a different perspective. I’d definitely recommend it!
